● Salem has launched a
partnership with the Ruth Mott Foundation,
Citizens Bank, Chemical Bank, Chase, Republic Bank and Fifth Third
for a demonstration home repair loan pool that provides loans for urgent
home repairs and prepares the house-hold for future conventional loan
repair funds. The banks are studying how it works in hopes of generating
new ideas that may create more lending options in the future!
●
Salem Housing has received a grant from the Genesee County Planning
Commission to restore 6 vacant houses in Mt. Morris Township and lead
Community Planning and Home Owner Education Classes. Partners in this
project include Mt. Morris Township, Metro Housing Partnership (11 new
homes being built), Genesee County Habitat for Humanity (6 new homes
being built) and the Genesee County Land Bank (vacant lots and houses
for this project). This is a unique opportunity to work with the
neighbors to add new homeowners in the community bounded by Pierson,
Clio, Carpenter, and Jennings.
● Designed a new construction
project with The Lockwood Group for the Kingswood neighborhood. Planning
is nearly complete for the 24 units of townhouses and duplexes on 3
acres between King and Garland, south of Welch Boulevard. These homes
are designed with the details that "match" the distinctive older homes
in the neighborhood. Residents in these new homes will join this strong
neighborhood as a part of truly revitalizing the community. Financing is
still not a sure thing, but applications are pending.
