Volunteer Opportunities
How YOU CAN HELP Salem Housing!
Adopt a Spot
Maintain a block or more mow, plant, pick up trash, and be the
"advocate" for services and care. An "adopters" sign will indicate
that you are taking responsibility for this area of our city.
Bloomin' with Salem
Each May, Salem Housing purchases flats of
flowers in quantity and sells them to beautify schools, churches, and
homes near and far. Call
Natasha Thomas
810-785-5340 ext. 25 or

to join in this great week!
Corporate
Sponsorships
Sponsor the work of Salem Housing by providing a corporate
sponsorship. Salem Housing is a non profit corporation and all gifts are
tax deductible. Salem must raise $137,000 from businesses, corporations,
churches, civic groups, and individuals this year to support homebuyer
counseling and education, and neighborhood revitalization. Sponsors are
recognized in all publications including the Annual Report, Newsletters,
and Special Events.
Builders'
Club Membership
Builders' Club Members pledge financial support for 3 years. Salem
Housing has made long-term promises to families and the community.
Consistent financial support is key to keeping those promises. Builders'
Members commit from levels of $5. Month ($60 year) to $10,000 per year.
This stable financing enables the organizing both to plan well and to
keep promises. Call Bruce Nieuwenhuis to discuss this option, 742-0071.
Fundraising Activities
Be a Better Innkeeper
Remember the story of the innkeeper of Bethlehem? How he turned
away that low-income mother and her betrothed? And we've said: "I
wouldn't have turned them away." There are still low income families
looking for safe, decent, and affordable places to live. This
Christmas, show that you will not make them settle for living in a
stable; or in other sub-standard housing. You can help provide a
home for them.
The Better InnKeeper project is an appropriate one during the
holiday season. Design it to fit your group. Call for brochures and
ideas. Jane Richardson at (810) 785-5340 ext. 33 or by email:
jrichardson@salemhousing.org
Many churches find this project an easy one to use either during
the holiday season or as a "not only at Christmas" project.
House Pins and Salem Housing
Made individually by House Pins by Lucinda to benefit the shelter
in Maine where she is a board member. Lucinda now hires many from that
shelter to assist with providing affordable housing across the country
by permitting other housing providers to sell one of a kind pins to
raise funds for their housing programs.
Salem Housing nets $6.50 per pin to support our homeownership
counseling and education program....practical, hands-on skills in
money management, credit management, and home repairs...it is one of
the tools for being able to continue to successfully manage housing
even if income remains limited.
A fun piece of jewelry, a good purpose and it often opens
conversations on how you feel about good and affordable housing or
about the work that community people do to re-create neighborhoods.
People Pins.. also made by Lucinda and brand new to Salem
Housing's neighborhood efforts. They are cute and should be very easy
to sell. Also $13 each with $6.50 per pin supporting community
building programs.
If you or your group would be interested in selling these pins for
Salem Housing's work,
